On Living the Dream…

Despite living the dream, today has been something of an emotional rollercoaster for me.
On one hand, I miss the familiar things that were “home” for me for almost 60% of my adult life. A lot. I looked west coming back to Starke from Green Cove Springs this afternoon around sunset…and there weren’t mountains over there. That was weird.
On the other hand, it’s truly, truly beautiful country here. It’s more “alive” than the Front Range was – I can hear hundreds of frogs out the window for most of the evening. The pine forest is *amazing*. I just want to go wandering in it for hours (damn “POSTED! NO TRESPASSING!” signs!)

On one hand, I miss my friends. I miss Karaoke on Friday Nights, even though in 18 months I only ever sang twice. I miss the Wednesday Night Rotating Microbrewery Boardgaming Nights, even though we only went a few times.
On the other hand, I’ve gotten to hang out with friends that I’ve known from the internet for years – but on Wednesday I’m going to hang out with a friend from Colorado that I haven’t seen in 10 years, and next week, I’m going to meet an old colleague’s wife and twins for the first time.

By all accounts (including my own), I’m livin’ the dream.
…but today has still been pretty hard…
