2015-07-04 Happy “Independence” Day!

Some people have been messaging me lately asking, “Are you OK?”

The short answer? Not really.

The 100% remote software development gig that I had ended (early, because _reasons_) at the beginning of April, and I haven’t been able to dig up another gig since then, and the work that I had _sort of_ lined up all fell through. At this point, I’m down to my last $200, and then everything is going on credit cards.

That’s why there haven’t been many videos in the last couple of months – watching Mary and me look for jobs is super boring, at best, and we have been conserving our financial resources the best we can, so there haven’t been many field trips, either.

At this point, I’ve had a few interviews for full-time positions around the country – but all in places that I wouldn’t really choose to live, if it were up to me (Greenville, Columbia, Redwood City, El Segundo, Boston, Chicago, Phoenix…) and none in places that I’d really like to live. Such is life.

On the bright side, Staying put in one place has really helped the daily cost of living fall through the floor. **Even counting** the money I had to spend on the tow bar, etc. at the beginning of the year, my daily cost of living is within $3/day of Apartment Life in 2014.
If you discount the “setting up” purchases, putting on 6500 miles this year has been *14% cheaper* than living in an apartment was last year, and next week marks 6 months on the road.
